Diversified Adjusting
Diversified Adjusting
The forefront of chiropractic care is the “adjustment”. The Diversified technique entails a high velocity, low amplitude thrust typically performed by hand, by the treating doctor. A cavitation, or “popping sound” is sometimes associated with the adjustment, but the absence of one does not indicate the adjustment was unsuccessful. The cavitation is simply a release of gas (oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide) within the joint space when an adjustment is delivered. An adjustment is typically used for the following reasons when necessary:
To restore range of motion and biomechanical functionality to a restricted/dysfunctional joint. This includes the spine and even the extremities.
May decrease pain by downregulating the activity of pain sensory neurons known as “nociceptors”.
The chiropractic adjustment momentarily gaps the facet joints (in the spine), breaking up intra-articular adhesions, and effectively stimulating mechanoreceptors, thereby reducing pain, lessening muscle spasm, and improving normal biomechanics of the joint.
